Video is one of the fastest-growing forms of media and an essential part of any marketing strategy. We all know we should be creating videos, but many are unsure as to what actually makes great video content? It’s important that you’re creating content that gets you results; otherwise, you could be wasting a lot of time and money.

Let’s dive into the three key elements that will help you create great video content.

Grabbing Viewers Attention

Millions of videos get uploaded and shared onto social media every day, so it’s up to you to make your video content stand out from the crowd by grabbing viewers’ attention as they scroll.

Two of the easiest ways to catch people’s attention is through your video title and thumbnail.

I’ve spoken before about thumbnails being the most important part of your video, and that’s because your video thumbnail is the first impression a potential viewer has of your video.

A high-quality image, the use of bold/on-brand colours and enticing text can be the difference between your video getting thousands of views or none at all.

Your video title is another tool for you to entice potential viewers to hit play. Titles enable your audience to understand what your video is about, so make sure it is clear and concise.

Don’t be afraid to get creative with your title, as it will help tempt viewers to watch your video — but do not resort to clickbait! Using irrelevant phrases and keywords to make your video title more exciting can harm you in the long run.

Add Value to Your Audience

A good question to ask yourself when creating video content is, why would someone want to watch my video?

People usually watch video content for one of three reasons, to be entertained, educated or informed — sometimes a mix of the three. When creating video content that does one of these three things, you’re adding value to your target audience and they are likely to keep coming back to consume more of your video content.

The more video content they consume, the easier it is to push them down your sales funnel and turn them into paying customers.

Hook The Viewer

People’s attention spans are getting shorter, making it harder to keep your audience engaged. If your audience isn’t engaged with your video, they won’t watch it all the way to the end, so they might miss key messages or call to action.

One key element of great video content is to include a 15–30 second hook at the beginning of your video that quickly engages the viewer, compelling them to keep watching.

An idea for a hook might be a question such as, ‘Have you ever wondered what the secret is to creating successful video content?’. Asking questions that relate to the subject of your video will engage viewers brains and get them thinking.

Another example of a great hook would be telling users how your video will help solve their problems. For example, ‘In today’s video, I’m going to tell you about three ways that can increase your sales through educational video content.’
